Balzamon grew up in the mines of Belegost with his four brothers, the sons of Gundin StonePipe. Their father worked in the mines of Belegost yet still found the time to teach his sons the skill of wielding the axe. Balzamon was known for his stealth and his sense of adventure. He befriended the dwarf, Thoras Greymane, and together they lived a life of misguided youth. Arbaal joined forces with them and the three of them went after many adventures in Arda. Loyalty always came first, everything else even honor and integrity were a distant second. Thoras's thief abilities led Balzamon and Arbaal into the scoundrel lifestyle. Eventually Thoras found his home in Edoras with the men of Rohan and Arbaal joined up with mercenaries.
Balzamon could never pass up being in a drunken stupor. On his way to Belegost he stopped at the Floating Log and ended up staying at the local inn next to the bar for many months. His beer drinking buddies would often leave the bar and cause all sorts of havoc throughout Arda always making sure they didn't remember it in the morning. He woke up one day in a ditch with none of his buddies around. Balzamon hadn't heard from Thoras Greymane in years and assumed him dead, the Floating Log was leagues away, and Arbaal had longed moved on to greater adventures. Making it back to the Floating Log no one was to be found so he was left to wander Arda homeless and alone for many years.
During these adventures his brother Nalain had also decided to leave Belegost leaving behind Josi and their kid brother Italacus. His father had left with his mother to colonize Khazad-Dum but Josi watched after his younger brother and decided to stay with the defense of Belegost. It didnt take long for Italacus to get anxious to leave home like the rest of his brothers and his travels would soon catch him up to Nalain and Balzamon. Josi discovered that their parents had died in the halls of Khazad-Dum and he sent out word to his brothers to come home. It would take time for Josi to get a hold of his brothers but he reached Balzamon first. He didn't take the news well and stormed from his old home. Balzamon traveled alone in a personal war against the minions of Sauron. He was overwhelmed in the forest of Fangorn one day and as he began to lose consciousness a wolf caught his eye. He had stumbled upon a gang that had the need to survive as much as he did and although most of the band didn't have his thirst for revenge, Balzamon's ferocity in battle was a welcome asset. They traveled with wolves and called themselves the Gaurwaith after Turin's band of long ago. One of the new recruits of the band was his youngest brother, Italacus! Balzamon told him about the fall of their father and mother and he couldn't believe he had left home and not of gone with them. The two took leave of Gaurwaith and set out for Belegost.
Josi had gotten word to Nalain and he started his way back to Belegost. All four brothers were once again home after many adventures and some misguided choices. They mourned the loss of their elders together for the first time. Belegost, was what they had called home before but it wasn't really so anymore. Balzamon said, "Brothers I have heard that there is a new King under the Mountain, who wishes to retake Khazad-Dum. Let us go aid his cause and avenge our family!" All four reached Erebor and met their King, Nurgamazur. Kneeling before the King they took the oath of the Baruk Khazad-Dum and became apart of the dwarven family. Even their cousins Bentelbow, Azmar, and Rogar came to Erebor and joined the battle alongside them. Balzamon raises his axe high, with his brothers by his side and lets out a wicked dwarven warcry: "Baruk Khazad! Khazad ai-menu!"
